THE SBTS STUDENT DANCE PROGRAM

Studio by the Sea opened its doors in 2012 with the vision of providing consistent, elite classical technical training, plus the most progressive, cutting-edge choreography and styles to local dancers.

Because we believe classical ballet technique to be the essential  foundation for all dance genres, our classical curriculum requires ongoing ballet training in the Vaganova style as students progress.  Dancers with a Hip Hop focus are encouraged to supplement their training with breakdance and/or strength classes to incorporate a multi-dimensional approach to their art. 

Although we are proud to be home to a Nationally-winning Dance Competition Team, with our Junior Soloist placing 1st OVERALL and our Junior team placing 3rd OVERALL during our last competition season, our vision is for our dancers to master the athleticism and artistry of dance that will serve them throughout life, not to simply perform  a “winning routine.”  Our disciplined but nurturing program instills students not only with lifelong physical fitness, flexibility and  grace,  but with essential life-skills attributes such as perseverance, goal-setting, teamwork, self-improvement, and so much more.  

Studio Owner and Artistic Director Wendy Lewis apprenticed and performed on tour with the highly-acclaimed Ballet West Company in Salt Lake City for 8 years before moving on to receive degrees in Ballet Performance and English from the University of South Florida, in Tampa, where she was also a member of the Contemporary Ballet company Moving Current.  In 20+ years of dancing and teaching, Wendy has participated in countless workshops, performances, Master classes and trainings with the industry’s foremost artists, including Mia Michaels, Violette Verde, Melissa Sandvig, Chehon Wespi-tschopp, Mollee Gray, Tessandra Chavez, Bene Arnold, and so many more. She has served as choreographer for Gulf Coast State College’s Singing Commodores, for Noah and Heather Well’s Magic Show,  was a lead ballerina in the film “Dancin’: It’s On”, and has choreographed and/or performed in dozens of additional events and productions ranging from fashion shows to weddings to flash mobs and more.   Forever a voracious student of the art form she is so passionate about, Wendy continues to train and perform and most recently visited Moscow, Russia, for advanced ballet, pedagogy,  and flexibility courses she is thrilled to pass on to her students.  

Until Hurricane Michael hit in October of 2018, Studio by the Sea served as Local Host Studio for the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker.  We are excited to resume this honor once we have a suitable local performance facility!

STUDIO BY THE SEA FITNESS PROGRAM

Our fresh lineup of unique fitness classes for all levels will sculpt your body and revitalize your workout routine! We offer both studio classes and classes that take place on our sugary shores!

CARDIO DANCE: Latin-dancing inspired cardio with a fitness punch! This super-fun workout feels more like a party!

CARDIO BARRE : The best ballet- inspired moves for sculpting and defining muscles, plus cardio intervals and stretching complete this transforming workout!

HIIT/CORE: “High Intensity Interval Training” is designed to blast fat and boost performance benefits in less time. Core and strength training rounds out this effective hour!

BUTTS AND GUTS : A mix of strength training and cardio drills with intense focus on sculpting the areas you’ve asked for most: your booty and core!

PLYOMETRICS: Short, bursts of intense cardio intervals crush calories while building strength and agility.

TOTAL BODY SHRED: This weight-lifting/body resistance course is mixed with blasts of cardio to melt fat and target every body part!

POWER TRAINING: A mix of strength and cardio performed in super-sets to really define and sculpt!

THE MARILYN MAKEOVER: This no-impact, no cardio, targeted strength training class tones and define your abs, booty, arms, and legs!

MOMMY & ME FITNESS : Bring your infant or toddler along to this fun and engaging interactive workout that targets your entire body!

BELLY DANCING: Shimmy your way to a new shape in this fun, all-levels class where you’ll learn basic belly dancing moves and work them into performance-worthy routines!

Yoga

Whether you’re a Yogi here on vacation and want to experience yoga on our sugary shores, or a local looking for a means of gaining focus, strength, flexibility and peace of mind, we have a yoga class for you!

VINYASA YOGA: Flowing sequences (vinyasas) interspersed with a variety of postures cultivates balance, flexibility, strength and endurance.

YOGILATES: Accelerate body sculpting with this yoga/Pilates Hybrid class emphasizing clarity, form and resistance. No impact or cardio–just toned, lean results!

BEACHSIDE YOGA: Our sunset and early morning yoga classes on the beach provide an organic catalyst for connecting with nature as you connect with your breath. A glorious way to experience the breathtaking beauty of our beaches!
